Fourth edition of the Miss True African Queen, formerly Miss Matofotofo, returns into action this Saturday with first auditions at the Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre.

As usual, the beauty pageant will hold three auditions in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu to identify queens to battle for the national title in December.

According to the programme submitted to The Nation on Wednesday morning, this year’s pageant will be run by founders Lwazi promotions. However, after two years of running the pageant, she rebranded the name and gave the rights to Florence Banda, the first winner of the pageant, to crown the 2012 queen.

“Miss True African Queen is back and we are giving it an old touch which we exposed when we were inaugurating the pageant. I have taken over because we had some weaknesses last year because I left it before thoroughly preparing the people to be running it,” she said.

Mbowa also revealed that this year’s pageant considers the physically challenged women and looks beyond beauty on the face.

“Our objective is to build confidence in women who feels sidelined. These include the big-bodied and the physically challenged. We celebrate African traditions and cultures and we believe in that there is beauty in every woman and we are creating the platform for every woman to prove it,” she said while asking women not to underrate themselves, but get to the stage and try their luck.

According to the programme, the next auditions will be in Mzuzu on October 26 and the last in Lilongwe on November 2.Each of the auditions will produce five regional representatives who will compete for the national title on December 5, 2013 at the Sunbird Capital in Lilongwe.
